William Smith (''c.''27 March〔Smith's date of birth is not recorded but he was baptised on 3 April 1603 and contemporary practice makes it likely he was born around seven days earlier and very unlikely to be more〕 1603 – April〔Smith's date of death is not recorded but he was buried on 21 April 1645〕 1645) was an English composer from the city of Durham. He is chiefly known for his set of choral preces and responses for the Anglican liturgy of Evening Prayer.

William Smith was baptised on 3 April 1603.
Richard Hutcheson was organist at Durham from 1613 until his death in 1644.
